The Natural Wonders of the Amazon

With every glance, you’ll discover something new. Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the Amazon Rainforest at the Pforzheim Gasometer.

Suddenly, you’re no longer just a visitor. All around you, towering trees and extraordinary plants rise up. A wide variety of animals make an appearance, offering a glimpse into their habitat.

The accompanying exhibition for “AMAZONIA” at the Gasometer in Pforzheim also provides interesting facts about the creation of the 360° panoramic painting, the region’s flora and fauna, as well as research into and threats to the Amazon rainforest.

Before You Dive In

Your visit begins at the accompanying exhibition at the Gasometer Pforzheim:

Here, you’ll learn how research trips through Brazil, thousands of photographs, and scientific consultation come together to create a giant circular painting - and you’ll get to know the Amazon as an ecosystem. A short film follows Yadegar Asisi on his journey through the rainforest and shows how the 360° panorama is created.

What to Expect

Before the tour of Yadegar Asisi’s 360° panorama AMAZONIA, the accompanying exhibition at the Gasometer Pforzheim takes visitors even deeper into the world’s largest contiguous rainforest. Spanning approximately seven million square kilometers - twenty times the size of Germany - the region is home to up to 16,000 tree species and countless animal and plant species, some of which remain unexplored.

A comprehensive exhibition of insects and live terrarium animals brings the “layers” of the rainforest—from the dark forest floor to the light-filled canopy—to life. The exhibition also shows how humans and nature have coexisted for centuries with floods, river systems, and overwhelming biodiversity—and why protecting this unique habitat is important for the entire world.
